Long before Singh’s Big Bazaar was a destination, it was a dream stitched together late at night, in the quiet hours between a full-time career and an impossible passion.
Sudesh Singh was a software engineer by day. But the moment the workday ended, she became something else entirely: a designer, a maker, a creator. While her colleagues were resting, she was at her sewing machine, sketching patterns, and shaping garments that felt alive
The spark that changed everything came during a solo trip to India — five weeks that she carved out of annual leave and sheer determination. She went looking for inspiration. She came back with a vision.
I started my home-based business as soon as I came back. I put in a lot of hard work outside of my job. Long hours at night and on weekends, but I loved it. I have always had this passion.
The Leap
When the opportunity came in 2004 to step away from her corporate career for good, Sudesh didn’t hesitate.
The dream she had quietly nurtured for years was finally ready to grow. What started as a home studio has grown into Melbourne’s most beloved Indian fashion destination.
With stores across Dandenong, Footscray, Brisbane, and Fiji, Singh’s Big Bazaar now serves generations of families across Australia’s South Asian community. But through all the growth, one thing hasn’t changed: Sudesh is in the store every single day, offering the same personal service that made customers fall in love with the brand from day one.
